Bandit (2/21/1994 - 10/06/2026)
Today has been a heart-shattering
day. Bandit, the horse of our family, crossed over the rainbow bridge this
morning. He made it to 32 years, 7 months and 15 days old. He wasn’t about to
break any oldest horse records, but that’s still a pretty grand horse age.
Bandit
was 16 hands high of leopard Appaloosa love. He even had a heart-shaped spot to
prove it! He was good to come “talk” to you through neighs, whinnies and
whickers (or “yell” at you in the same if he was hungry, lol). He was a
one-horse show all his years with us, but he was good at befriending the family
dogs and cats and even the occasional stray cat. His favorite human was my mom,
his absolute person. She’s the one who met him first in our family. He was
green-broke only to her. He was hers, and she was his.
Bandito
Burrito’s (my principal nickname for him) great love - aside from my mom, and
in fairness, this probably rivaled it - were carbohydrates. You’ve got
Pop-Tarts hiding in your pocket? He’ll smell you coming. Do you have part of a loaf
of bread in your hand? He’ll hear the crinkle of the bag while he’s still out
of your sight line. You have a mostly full box of Lucky Charms that you forgot
about in your cupboard that’s started to go stale? Whoever grants those treats
to him will be his favorite person of the day! (Also, that was me. I was the
one with the Lucky Charms who didn’t eat them in a timely fashion.)
Banditto
was a feisty good boy. I’ll sure miss sharing my extra carbs with him!
