Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2023

The day’s coming fast! It’s coming soon
At 5:00 in the afternoon –
Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social fest.
Please join us and come be our guest.

Sunday, Sept. 24th, is the day of fun
For you, your neighbors and everyone.
Come hungry. Gobble up a sloppy joe
And be sure to save room for the best in show.

Which mouthwatering pies will appear this year?
Do berries and other fruits make you cheer?
Will pumpkin, pecan or creamy coffee show up?
How about mocha cream or chocolate peanut butter cup?

Before the food or after, check out our bake sale,
Where tasty contributions delectably prevail.
There might be a mix of goods savory and sweet.
Browse early to find taste bud tripping treats!

There will be a Silent Auction, too.
Watch your bids closely for new stuff to accrue.
Quilt raffle tickets are, each, one buck.
With two quilts in the raffle, I wish you good luck!

We look forward to seeing you on 9/24
For a carousel of good times galore.
On your calendars, mark the day and time
And join us for a Social that’s sublime!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream UN-Social 2021

Fortunately, Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social is a go this year. The posters are up, a Social poem was created (see yesterday's post), and pie plotting has begun. Since the Social will happen, I decided to share the UN-Social poem I wrote last year.

Oh my, oh no, for the second year in a row
There’s no Social at Trondhjem; it’s a no-go.
We remain in a pandemic, so there’s no need to make haste,
Because there are no pies at all to taste.

So I’ll dream of the pies that might have been,
Like any sort of berry which we had back when.
I’m fond of those that have a chocolate focus,
Though a top-notch banana cream is not hocus pocus.

It’s another year away from Linda’s sloppy joes.
No chance to buy leftovers, so that really blows.
Without a Silent Auction and no baked goods to pick,
It’s just another day, oh fiddlesticks!

There was a quilt raffle with more than one quilt,
Giving some normalcy when one felt atilt.
I sure hope TLC will host a Social in ‘22,
For it’s an event that I always look forward to!

Oh glory be! Let happiness resound,
For Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social is back around.
On Sunday, Sept. 18, it will commence.
Come right at 5 or when, for you, it makes sense.

Back on the menu are Linda’s sloppy joes.
Then you’ll want pie, though I shouldn’t presuppose.
What sorts of pies will show up this year?
Pies that are expected or one featuring root beer?

Do the berry pies make your taste buds tap?
Or is it banana cream or pecan that makes you clap?
Do pumpkin, lemon meringue or peach have you singing?
Or does chocolate and peanut butter get your taste buds springing?

A bake sale and Silent Auction will feature upstairs.
Watch your bids closely, lest you be caught unawares.
Be sure to stock up at the baked goods table,
Where the goodies come affixed with a set-price label.

WELCA has ready raffle quilts times two.
Please buy up those tickets. Any number will do.
Each raffle ticket will cost you one dollar.
To purchase, please give a Trondhjem member a holler!

We hope to see you on September 18th for fun,
Food and fellowship for you and everyone.
Our Social is a delight of deliciousness and glee,
So come on over for a sweet and savory spree!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream UN-Social 2020

I never posted this poem last year, which is why I'm sharing it during National Poetry Month. Before 2020, there was never a year where my home church did not host its annual Pie & Ice Cream Social. I've been creating an annual poem for over a decade, and it didn't feel right not creating a poem simply because the pandemic prevented Trondhjem from having its annual Social. With no Social going on, I created an UN-Social poem instead. Enjoy!

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream UN-Social 2020

Where normally our Social would’ve been a go,
In this year of COVID, we’re automatically no-shows.
Like so many the world over, our plans ground to a halt.
Each cancelled event was like rubbing wounds with more salt.

No Social meant zero mouthwatering baked goods to buy.
No lefse, kolaches or doughnuts, so release a sad sigh.
No Social meant no Silent Auction upstairs.
No bidding war to jump into as you gave gleeful glares.

No Social meant a year off from raffling a quilt.
We felt the loss of not seeing what our neighbors baked, made and built.
No Social meant a year of Linda’s sloppy joes gone by
And an empty counter showcasing nary a pie.

I truly hope that next year will be so much better
And that, right now, we’re doing our part, following things to the letter.
The social distancing, the masks; we’re tired of it all.
Stay healthy. Stay safe, and I hope our Social’s back next fall!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2019

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2019

Oh glorious day! Hip hip hooray! Jolly yippee!
It’s time for Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social jubilee!
Our annual event kicks off in the afternoon at 5.
On September 15th, join us where food, fun and fellowship thrive.

Let your stomach lead you to the sloppy joes downstairs.
Choose your slice of pie wisely and pull up a chair.
Will there be pumpkin, lemon meringue or chocolate this year?
Is it to Georgia peach, strawberry or cherry that you steer?

Not to be forgotten is our Silent Auction of delights.
Who knows what there’ll be? It will be a plethora of sights.
Might we see hand-sewn projects and woodwork built?
I have it on good authority that we can expect a quilt.

Adjacent to the auction is our baked goods sale
Often bursting with sweets like a confectionery cocktail.
Are you hoping for lefse, kolaches or doughnuts galore?
For homemade bread or pickles, brownies or savories and more?

Again this year is Trondhjem’s quilt raffle – times two!
Buy up many tickets so your winning chances accrue.
The tickets will cost you just one dollar each.
Thank you for your support. You are a peach!

Come September 15th, we hope to see you here.
Join us in our family-friendly atmosphere.
Five o’clock heralds this annual celebration,
A marvel of creativity and delicious sensations!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2018 continued ...

We are one week away from one of my favorite days of the year: Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social Day! If you’re up on my blog, you’ll see that I posted my poem for this annual event last week. This post features a handful of photos featuring items that you can see if you, too, attend this year’s Social. The two quilts are the quilts starring in this year’s quilt raffle. The remaining photos spotlight items that will be up for bidding at our Silent Auction upstairs. If you’re able to come, please check out those items and so much more!
This is the larger of the two quilts donated by Trondhjem’s WELCA. It features primarily brown tones. Very neutral.
This is the smaller of the two quilts donated by Trondhjem’s WELCA. It features primarily gray tones. Also very neutral.
These Kate Spade sunglasses were donated by Family Eye Care Center of Austin, MN. The frame’s front is two-toned. The temples (a.k.a. bows) are darker like the top portion of the frame front. Card not included. :-) (The card prop is courtesy of my sister-in-law, Katie.)
The LuLaRoe leggings and gift card were donated by LuLaRoe - Megan Flatness. The leggings are one size. They will be separate auction items. So, if you’re not into leggings or one size isn’t your size, you’ll still have a chance at a LuLaRoe-related item if you so choose.
These books are from me. As in, I bought them and will be placing them on the Silent Auction. They will all be separate bid items. Not one, but four items. As you can see, they represent a variety of genres and aren’t specific to one age group. I have not read any of them, so be warned. Although I’ve bought them once, I’ll gladly buy them back!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2018

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2018

Knock, knock. Who’s there? We’ve got news to share
Of TLC’s annual social with flair.
It’s our Pie & Ice Cream Social day
On 9/16 at 5. Please come without delay!

Sloppy joes are a must, but what about pie?
Which flavor will make your palate sigh?
Do you have pumpkin, peach or pecan on your list?
Is it chocolate chip or cherry you can’t resist?

Go on upstairs and with the Silent Auction engage
In bidding fun no matter the age.
Might there be books, games or a basket of wine?
Let’s look for handicrafts of the creators’ designs!

Also upstairs are our baked goods tables replete
With buy-and-take goodies for you to yourself treat.
Come early for doughnuts, kolaches, lefse and more,
Then return later for a baked goods encore.

Our quilt raffle this year features not one, but two
WELCA-donated quilts to comfort and renew.
With two quilts to raffle, go on, take a chance.
Purchase $1 tickets for your odds, enhance.

Join us on September 16th for a merry-go-round of flavor.
Place your bids and find edibles to enjoy and savor.
Our event is a tapestry of tastefulness too fun to diagnose.
Meet us at 5 for your annual Social dose!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2017

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2017

Could you go for a “famous” sloppy joe reload?
Then come on out to Trondhjem down the gravel road.
On September 17th, bring your appetite.
Arrive at 5 for your prime, pie-picking delight!

What flavors shall brighten your taste buds this year?
To rhubarb, raspberry or pumpkin would you steer?
How about chocolate, peanut butter or peach?
Do you wish you could have a sample of each?

Please peruse our silent auction and baked goods tables.
They are upstairs; head up as your time enables.
There will be crafts, woodwork, perhaps books of fiction,
Gift baskets, collectibles, so bid with conviction.

Be sure to stock up on an assortment of baked goods
Featuring treats made by our church neighborhood.
Will we see lefse, doughnuts, kolaches or bread?
Might you buy cookies, bars or apple crisp instead?

This year’s quilt raffle by WELCA fits a queen.
Deb’s quilt top, with all quilters, show skill that is seen.
Hayward’s Calico Hutch came in with the assist.
Tickets are $1 each, a price you can’t resist.

We hope you’re free to mark your calendars now
And also hope that your schedules will allow
You to come on September 17th at 5
To a hub where food, fun and fellowship thrive.

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2016

Thanks for tuning in to another one of my Social poems! I encourage you to read the lead comment below for an opportunity that you may want to participate in.  In fact, I hope you DO participate ... at least 25 of you!

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2016

Stop here on red. Green light. Now, go, go, GO
To Trondhjem Lutheran Church where fellowship is aglow.
The Pie & Ice Cream Social begins at 5.
On September 18th, we’ll be as a bustling beehive.

The kitchen will serve up Linda’s sloppy joes.
As for dessert, I think few will oppose
A celebration of pies and fireworks of flavor,
The tricky choice being of which pie to savor?

Might you want apple, peach or heavenly cherry?
Chocolate, non-fruit or a meringue-topped fairy?
There will be an array of options quite vast
To ensure that we enjoy a tasty repast.

Be sure to check out the silent auction upstairs.
Which items will catch you unawares?
Not to be ignored is our buy-and-take sale
Where baked goods and other homemade foods prevail.

WELCA is raffling a quilt that’s king-sized
Featuring warm colors and a plush-backed surprise.
Donated by Mona with tickets a dollar apiece,
Buy more than one, so for your chances, increase.

Proceeds from the Social will for Haiti help fund
A birthing center and bin homes. It’s a good sort of stunned
For those at GoServ Global who deliver hope
And spread God’s love. They request bars of soap.

Please come on 9/18 in sunshine or rain
To a fond place amidst fields of grain.
We at Trondhjem await you to welcome you here,
But for now have a blessed huzzah and a cheer!

Trondhjem's Pie & Ice Cream Social 2015

If you know me well, you know that I concoct an annual poem leading up to my home church’s Pie & Ice Cream Social. This year marks the 10th anniversary of my Social poems! I wrote my first Social poem in 2006 on a whim. It was something new for me to try to do. And here we are, in 2015, and I’m still writing them!

Trondhjem’s Pie & Ice Cream Social 2015

The Pie & Ice Cream Social’s around the bend.
All of Trondhjem invites you to attend.
September the twentieth is the date.
It begins at 5; we don’t have long to wait!

From the kitchen we’ll be serving sloppy joes,
And as for dessert, most anything goes.
It’s a potluck of pies, a spectacle of taste.
Should you want first choice of pie, then to the food make haste!

Will pumpkin, raspberry or cherry appear?
Would eggnog pie promote pre-holiday cheer?
There might be chocolate or banana cream.
So many pies, which for you reigns supreme?

Do not forget that there is more upstairs.
There’s a silent auction and baked goods to spare.
Those treats may be salty, spicy, sweet or tart.
Know that all has been made/created with heart.

Donated by WELCA is a quilt that’s great,
And the talents who made it are first rate!
A ticket won’t set you back much, just a buck,
So buy a lot or a few and try your luck!

We hope you can come for an evening of fun
On 9/20 at 5. Please walk. Don’t run.
Visiting with you will make our day a success.
We’ll see you real soon. Until then, God bless!
